Sylvester Stallone<\/strong><\/a> is paying tribute to Rocky<\/em>costar Carl Weathers<\/strong> following his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is an incredibly sad day for me. I\u2019m so so torn up I can\u2019t even tell you,\u201d Stallone, 77, shared in a Friday, February 2, Instagram<\/a>video. \u201cCarl Weathers was such an integral part of my life, my success, everything about it. I give him incredible credit and kudos because when he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness but I didn\u2019t realize how great. I never could have accomplished what we did with Rocky<\/em>without him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stallone called the late actor \u201cbrilliant\u201d in his \u201cvoice, his size, his power, his athletic ability\u201d but \u201cmost importantly in his heart and his soul.\u201d Calling Weathers\u2019 death a \u201chorrible loss,\u201d he pointed out the painting behind him which featured Stallone and Weathers during their final on-screen match as Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed, respectively, during the 1976 film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was probably the last moment we were ever in the ring together and I\u2019ll never forget it,\u201d he said of the famous scene. \u201cHe was magic and I was so fortunate to be part of his life. So, Apollo, keep punching.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the heartfelt video, Stallone captioned the post, \u201cWe lost a legend yesterday. My life was forever changed for the better the day I met Carl Weathers. Rest in power and keep punching.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weathers\u2019 family confirmed earlier on Friday that the Predator<\/em> star had died at age 76<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,\u201d they wrote in a statement to\u00a0Deadline<\/a>.<\/em>\u00a0\u201cHe died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weathers got his start in acting by scoring small roles in movies such as Bucktown and Friday Foster before landing his first major gig opposite Stallone in Rocky as Apollo Creed. He reprised the role in the next three installments of the franchise:\u00a0Rocky II, Rocky III<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Rocky IV<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His career also included notable roles in films like\u00a0Predator<\/em>,\u00a0Close Encounters of the Third Kind<\/em>,\u00a0Death Hunt<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Comebacks<\/em>. In 2021, he was nominated an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his work\u00a0on Disney+\u2019s\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>series<\/a>\u00a0The Mandalorian<\/em>. Weathers is survived by his ex-wife,\u00a0Mary Ann Castle,<\/strong>\u00a0and their two sons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
