Lebanon\u2019s parliament has elected General Joseph Aoun, the army commander, as the country\u2019s 14th president, ending a two-year political deadlock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aoun secured 99 out of 128 parliamentary votes, surpassing the required two-thirds majority. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His election is seen as a shift in Lebanon\u2019s political landscape, indicating a reduction in Hezbollah\u2019s influence following recent conflicts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
